Complexity: Easy Cooking Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 Large egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon Milk
  • as needed Food coloring (orange, black, green)
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons Water
  • optional, as needed Halloween-themed sprinkles or candy decorations

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and milk to the butter mixture and mix until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  6. Divide the dough into smaller portions and add different food colorings (orange, black, green) to each portion, kneading the dough to evenly distribute the color.
  7. Roll out each portion of dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.
  8. Use Halloween-themed cookie cutters (such as pumpkins, ghosts, or bats) to cut out shapes from the dough.
  9. Transfer the cookie shapes to the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
  10. Bake the cookies in the oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack.
  11. While the cookies cool, make the icing by mixing powdered sugar with 2-3 tablespoons of water until smooth. Add more water for a thinner consistency if needed.
  12. Divide the icing into small bowls and color each with food coloring to match your Halloween theme.
  13. Once the cookies are completely cool, decorate them with the icing, sprinkles, and any other Halloween-themed decorations.
  14. Let the icing set for about 10-15 minutes before serving or storing in an airtight container.
