Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups All-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon Baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 1 cup Unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup Granulated sugar
- 1 large Egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
- 1 cup Icing sugar (for decorating)
- 2-3 tablespoons Milk (for decorating)
- As needed Food coloring (optional, for decorating)
- As needed Sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
-
1
In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
-
2
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using a hand mixer or stand mixer until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
-
3
Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
-
4
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms. Do not overmix.
-
5
Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a disc. Wrap the discs in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
-
6
Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
7
On a lightly floured surface, roll out one of the dough discs to about 1/4-inch thickness. Using festive cookie cutters, cut out shapes and transfer them to the prepared baking sheet.
-
8
Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
9
While the cookies cool, prepare the icing by mixing the icing sugar and milk until smooth. If desired, divide the icing into small bowls and add food coloring.
-
10
Once the cookies are completely cooled, decorate them with the prepared icing and sprinkles.
-
11
Allow the decorated cookies to dry for at least 30 minutes before serving or storing.
